Abstract:
This research investigates the effect of job satisfaction on employees’ (health professionals’)
turnover intention: in case of university of Gondar comprehensive specialized hospital. The 264
respondents were determined using taro yemane`s formula and selected using simple random
sampling after stratified proportionally. The primary data were gathered through self
administered questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS 20.0.
Results of the study revealed that,health professionals’ of the hospital reported
average/moderate overall levels of job satisfaction. Ability utilization, achievement, social
service coworkers and moral values indicate high or good mean values. On the other hand
scores creativity, independence, responsibility, recognition, authority, variety, advancement,
activity, working condition supervision both technical and human indicates that there is
average/moderate level, and compensation indicates low level of satisfaction. The study showed
that there is high level of turnover intention. And the study also indicates that satisfaction with
intrinsic and extrinsic dimension of job satisfaction has a negative and significant correlation
with turnover intention.
The study revealed that the overall job satisfaction of the health professionals in university of
Gondar comprehensive hospital is found to be average or moderate level of job satisfaction. The
regression analyses of the data revealed that not all dimensions of the job satisfaction have a
significant and negative effect on turn over intention of the health professional employees of the
hospital. Finally the situation needs strong commitment and strong strategic leadership working
in order to build resource comprehensive and effective human resource policy since the ultimate
goal of every organization is efficiency and effectiveness.
