Abstract:
Background: Statistics indicated that employees in both developed and developing countries
are exposed to diverse and considerable risk of industrial accidents, hazards, diseases, and death.
Globally, in the study of an estimated 2.3 million workers die every year from workplace
accidents and work- related diseases.
Objectives: This study was to assess workplace health and safety management system and
employee practice in Dashen Brewery Share Company in Gonder plant.
Methods: Stratified random sampling technique was employed to identify the respondents. A
total of 204 workers at technical and non-technical group of a company. 87 respondents select
from technical group and 117 selected from non-technical proportionate to population size.
Workers from each groups were selected using simple random sampling technique. Trained data
collectors administered a standardized the data was collected using primarily through structured
sex Likert scale self-administered questionnaire. Data was analyzed by descriptive analysis of
frequency and percentage, in addition to this were data was analyzed enter and stepwise liner
logistic regression model.
Results: the findings indicate that the overall workplace health and safety management system
and employee practice in Dashen Brewery Share Company condition is poor. There is no
relationship and effects of factor influencing implementation of health and safety management
system and employee practice with health and safety management system and similarly from
employee practice.
Conclusion: Company not give training and orientation on workplace health and safety
management system and employees practice to employees, though have luck of awareness about
workplace health and safety management system and employee practice. Similarly the
consequences of poor employee awareness and knowledge there is no health and safety
management system employee practice in company workplace beyond to this no significant
effect and relation about influential factor of implementing of health and safety management
system and employee practice in a company workplace.
