Good performance of supply chain yields a far-reaching positive consequence for the attainment
of organizational goals. However, the performance of supply chains is affected by various
factors. The objective of this study was to investigate determinants of pharmaceutical supply
chain management performance at University of Gondar Compressive Specialized Hospital. In
doing so, a total of 320(Male=190, Female=130) health professionals were included in the study
using proportional stratified random sampling technique. The study used explanatory research
design using quantitative research approach. The study used primary data. Data were collected
using pilot tested closed ended questionnaire having a five-point Likert scale. Data analysis was
undertaken using SPSS version 2022 with the main analysis tools being frequency, percentage,
mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation and Multiple Linear Regression. From the findings
the result of descriptive statistics indicated that, information sharing indicated a mean value of
1.81, employee competence indicated a mean value of 2.25, technological infrastructure
indicated a mean value of 1.88 and inventory control indicated that a mean value of 2.56 in
which all are in the disagree scale. Findings of correlation analysis showed that all the
determinant factors has a strong positive relation with pharmaceutical supply chain management
performance thus information sharing had a correlation of r = 0.917, employee competence had a
correlation of r = 0.913, technological infrastructure had a correlation of r = 0.879 and inventory
control had a correlation value of r= 0.749. The study findings of regression indicated that
information sharing, employee competence and inventory control are significantly affect supply
chain management performance at (p<0.05). However technological infrastructure has not
significant association with pharmaceutical supply chain management performance. Analysis of
the values of the regression coefficients showed that the highest determinant factor for
pharmaceutical supply chain performance was information sharing (β=1.858), followed by
employee competence (β=1.413) and inventory (β=0.205). Finally, it is recommended that the
specialized hospital and other relevant stakeholders should work jointly to provide information
regarding the operation of pharmaceutical supply chain in constant and frequent basis to their
customers, suppliers and other relevant bodies. The specialized hospital is also recommended to
create its own website and other printed media that may be used to share information regarding
the operation of pharmaceutical supply chain. |
