Back ground:
Respiratory tract symptoms are symptoms such as cough, phlegm, dyspnea, wheeze
and chest ill ness and they are among the major causes of consultation at primary
health centers.
Respiratory tract symptoms are more risky in smoking group, workers exposed to dust,
non-user of personal protective equipment (mask), older age group and those workers
that have long service in dust environment.
Objective-The objective of the study is to determine the respiratory tract symptoms
and associated factors among wood processing manufacturing workers in maichew
particle board factory.
Method-Organizational based comparative cross sectional study will be conducted to
determine the prevalence and associated factors of respiratory tract symptoms among
wood processing workers in maichew particle board factory. The study will be
conducted among 501 participants from the wood processing workers as exposed
group and administration workers, drivers workers are as control group.
Department stratification with proportional simple random system will be used to select
workers from each department of the factory. The data will be collected by 4 nurses
after two days training with interview administered standard questionnaire from
American thoracic society and observational check list.
Work plan cost the project-Total of 26884.7birr is required to carry out this
study. The study end up with five months (January-May).This will divided in to three
phases that is proposal development, and defense data collection and analysis as well
as thesis writing
