Abstract
Background: COVID-19 is a pandemic disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Preventing the spread of infection relies on the effective use of COVID – 19 Preventive
measures. Therefore, this study is to narrow the information porosity Utilization of
COVID-19 preventive measures and associated factors. The objective is to assess the
level/proportion of utilization of COVID – 19 Preventive measure and associated factors
among Public employees in Nekemte town, Ethiopia.
Methods: The study employed an institutional-based Cross-sectional study in Nekemte
town, Ethiopia from April to May 2021. Government employees were the source
population while the study population was employees working in an office during data
gathering. 30 government offices and 394 sampling units were selected randomly.
Descriptive and Multinomial logistic regression was used to analyze the utilization of
COVID-19 preventive measures and associated factors at adjusted odds ratio 95 % CI
and p-value less than 5 %.
Results: The overall covid-19 utilization preventive measures practice of the
respondents was 148 (37.6%), while the remaining 246(62%) of the respondents were
didn’t have good practice of utilize preventive measures of covid-19. Factors like age
21-35 years (AOR= 0.29, 95% CI; 0.13,0.65), degree and above at (AOR=0.12, 95%
CI; 0.03-,0.55), married (AOR=2.44 95% CI; 1.09,5.49), USA origin (AOR=3.75, 95%
CI; 2.06-6.81), China origin (AOR=8.16, 95% CI; 4.63-14.37) and doing physical
exercise (AOR =0.03, 95% CI; 0.02, 0.07) were significantly associated on utilizations
of covid-19 prevention measures at p-value <0.05 at CI 95%.
Conclusion: Utilizations of covid-19 preventive measure among government
employee of Nekemet Town. More importantly, government employee their age,
educational status, marital status, origin of covid-19 and physical exercise were
associated with Utilizations of covid-19 preventive measure.
