dc.description.abstract Abstract Background:Completeandconsistenceuseofintegratedmanagementofchildhood illness(IMCI)protocolisstrategicimplementation;promotestheaccurateidentificationof childhoodillnessesinoutpatientsettings,ensuresappropriatecombinedtreatmentofall majorunderfiveillnesses,strengthensthecounselingofcaregiver,andspeedsupthe referralofseverelyillchildren.ForhealthcareprovidersimplementationofIMCIwas criticaltodecreasechildmortalityandmorbidity. Objective:TheobjectiveofthiscapstoneprojectwastoimprovecompletenessofIMCI protocolfrom 37.8% to85% andcumulativeconsistence(classification,treatmentand followup)from 41.3%to85%inSanjaprimaryHospital,NorthwestEthiopia2019. Methods:Pre-postinterventionalstudydesignwasappliedandthestudywasconducted in Sanja primary HospitalPre interventionalfrom Octoberto December,Forpost interventionfrom FebruarytoApril2019.Atotalof381childrenfrom IMCIregistration wasreviewed.Data werecollected using structured questionnaire/audittoolsimilar formatwithIMCIprotocol.Forcompletenessandconsistencethedatawascoded, cleanedandanalysisbyenteringtoEPIinfoversion7andexporttoSPSSversion20for analysis.IndependentT-testwasusedforcomparingpreandpostresult. Result:TheinterventionwasassociatedwithsignificantimprovementinIMCIprotocol consistenceandcompleteness.IMCIprotocolconsistencewithrelatedtoclassificationof disease,treatmentandfollowupimprovedfrom pretopostintervention,47.5%to76.9%, 42.3%to75.35% and34.1%to73% respectivelyandcompletenessincreasefrom 37.8to 79.8%.Theinterventionswerestatisticallysignificantwith95%confidenceinterval,p-value of0.001andmeandifference0.31683. Conclusionandrecommendations:IMCIprotocolcompletenessandconsistencewas improvedatSanjaPrimaryHospital.Thiscapstoneproject,therefore,recommendsthe healthprofessionalsofUnderfivedepartmentandthehospitalshouldcontinuetheir practicestosustainablyimprovethehospitaltousetheIMCIprotocolforeachchild.
