Assessing the problems that affect Socioeconomic Conditions of Children with Single Mother after divorce in Jantekel Sub City Gondar City Administration.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explore the problemthat affect socio economic condition of children with single mother because of divorce. A qualitative cross-section study design was employed, key informant interview with children and women affair officer, kebele administrators for in depth interview, children and their mother was conducted until the data saturated. Data was analyzed through thematicall, during the data collected time all the necessary ethical procedures were considered for maintain high emotion of the study participant. The findings from the study revealed that socio economic conditions of children from their single mother is difficult because based on the finding the children are mostly affected by different concerns in the environment, like by socially they are disturbed, economically they are exposed for difficulty life situation, for example they weren‟t get fulfill all types basic needs like house, food, and cloth as well as education. Generally, the socioeconomic condition of children who live with their single mother were affected by different problems that are occurred from their mother, neighborhoods, friends, as well as other responsible bodies from their sub city‟s admins or the situation as it is. Because of financial problem (difficulty for the mothers to meet the basic needs of children and the family) children of single parents receive little support in their educational engagement form their mothers (that have a negative effect on their performance in school) and single mothers received limited support from community, neighborhood, government and non-government organization. Finally the study shows some way of coping mechanism for the problem that affects economic and social conditions. In the study, the researcher used snow ball and purposive sampling.
