dc.description.abstract Indigenous supporting system is still curtaining many traditional societies in formally ,which is curtainless under formal supporting system to ensure their wellbeing. And Buusaa Gonofaa as traditional supporting has not become idle to do that.It is traditional supporting system which is playing key role in ensuring social,economic,pschological and material wellbeing of Borana people.It is holistic survival model for Borana.As main objectives this study assess function of Buusaa Gonofaa as indigenious social welfare system to ensure well being of Borana people.Specifically, it tried to see operational mode,touch stone that ought to be met by Buusaa Gonofaa aid recievers and customary law which is cause for its lastingness.Qualitative design was used with specific design, case study while non-probability sampling with specific purposive sampling was used as sample technique.As data source both primary and secondary data were used.primary data were collected in using observatio,focus group discussion and informant interview. Out of 13 woredas,the resercher selected 4,woredas,Yabello,Areero,Dhas and Dire purposively since they are potential for Buusa Gonofa practice.And 22 respondents were selected as sample sie based on their knowledge on Buusa Gonofaa practice.The data was analyzed using Qualitative method with specific thematic approach.Finding,showed that Buusaa Gonofa is clan-based support which is either temporary or permanent that transpass livestock and financial offerings.It is any exchange takes place among clans to upholds their members which is tied in customary law.But,this indigenous supporting system is not recognized well.Therefore,the study revealed,when this traditional support is encouraged by formal structure,it can be extra input for social wellbeing. en_US
