Abstract:
The main aim of this study was to investigate socio-economic impact of unemployment in
Wolaita zone in case of Areka town administration. Descriptive case study method was designed
and employed. The target population of the study was unemployed universities graduates. From
these 132 were selected randomly. To study the problem, data was collected by using
questionnaire, interviews and direct observation methods.To find out how far unemployment has
an impact on social and economic life of the people data was analyzed and interoperated.
The study was attempted to observe and assess the the socio-economic impact of unemployment
on universities and college graduates and residents of the sub-town in Areka. The results of the
study showed the respondents expect more help from the government. The study showed that
respondents were stressful because of being unemployed. This also indicated as one factor in
increasing unemployment rate. The study also recommends some suggested mechanisms to
minimize unemployment and related problems
