Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to investigate major causes that affect students reading
comprehension at Chuahit secondary school.. The collected data through questionnaire,
classroom observation and interview were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The total
population of the study was 1523. Among these the researcher selected 120 students and 4
grade 9 English language teachers for participants of the study. The students were selected by
using simple random sampling technique and the teachers were selected by comprehensive
sampling technique. The data obtained through the above instruments were presented in tables
and words. The results of this study show that the attitude of students towards grammar and
their lack of interest towards reading comprehensions should be changed. The teacher’s way of
teaching and using teaching reading techniques that need serious improvements. The school
administrators and other concerned bodies should fulfill different materials for alleviating the
causes that affect students reading comprehension.
