The main purpose of this study was to find out the practice and awareness of reading
strategy in teaching reading skill. In order to meet the objectives of the study, a
descriptive survey design was employed. Five (5) teachers and 120 students were
selected using systematic random sampling technique for students and comprehensive for
teachers for this study. Questionnaires and interview were used for collecting data.
Frequency distributions, percentages distributive statistics were used to analysis the
quantitative data. The data obtained through close-ended of questions of the
questionnaires and the interviews were qualitatively analyzed to supplement the
quantitative data using SPSS and narrative descriptions. The finding revealed that
Chuahit secondary school students reading strategy is below what is expected of them.
The result also indicated that teachers had little awareness about reading strategies and
students did not use the different types of reading strategies used in this study. Teachers
