Abstract:
Depression, anxiety and stress are the most common problems among orthopedic patients. But,
there is information gap on mental health status and associated predictors among orthopedic
patients in the study area. Having identified this gap, the current study aimed to assess mental
health status and associated predictors among orthopedic patients. This study is quantitative by
design. Respondents of the study were selected using systematic random sampling. From the
total population of the study site, a total of 412 orthopedic patients participated in the study. The
study was cross sectional by nature that was conducted from March to May2021at university of
Gondar comprehensive specialized hospital. The data for this study was collected using a
standard questionnaire particularly Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) was used as a
tool for data collection. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS version 21. Mean
standardization and chi square and two ways ANOVA were employed to analyze the collected
data. The prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress among orthopedics patients was found to
be 28.9%, 20.6 %, 41.7% respectively. Factors like marital status, educational status, co morbid
disease and length of stay in the hospital were found to be significantly associated with stress
anxiety and Depression.
