Abstract:
Gender inequality in public sectors is identified in different structure of occupations, process
of the activities and practice of the employments. The main objective of the study was to
identify causes and consequences of gender inequality in public institutions at Administration
pool of Chilga Woreda. The study employed qualitative research method and used both
primary and secondary sources. The populations in this study were Chilga Woreda
Administration pool six public sectors office heads, department heads and other permanent
employees. Therefore, they were selected for the purpose of this study by using purposive
sampling technique. The data were collected through document review, key informant
interviews and focus group discussion. In this research the data were analyzed and processed
thematically. The overall results of the study found that, because of different causes gender
inequality existed tat Chilga Woreda public institutions. The result of this study identified
that, lack recommendation and less representation of women employees to higher position
and very few assigning in the committees as compared to men employees in the public sectors
are the major consequences of gender inequality. The study result also portrayed that, almost
all the decisions are made from male point of view. Based on the above findings of the study,
the researcher recommended that, the existed misconception on gender issues calls for strong
intervention, therefore, strategies that aimed at reducing gender inequality should be
implemented in the Woreda public institutions. The Woreda Women and Children Affair
Office or other responsible body should have organized and provide training on gender
inequality issues.
