Abstract:
Intimate partner physical violence against women is worldwide problem. The aim of this study
was to assess the prevalence of intimate partner physical violence against women, associated
factors and recommendations to minimize intimate partner physical violence against women in
Pawi Woreda, Metekel Zone. Quantitative research method particularly descriptive survey
strategy was employed. In the study, quantitative instruments were used to measure the
prevalence of intimate partner physical violence and the relationship between factors and violent
acts. At the same time, the suggested recommendation to minimizing IPPV against women was
conducted on 385 married women. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 385
respondents from all Keble’s of the Woreda. The data were collected through closed ended and
open ended questions. which were developed based on literatures of intimate partner Physical
violence. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 20 in descriptive statistics and chi-square
correlation model. The prevalence of women in the last 12 months was above 60% in selected
four intimate partner physical violence’s were, acts that were throwing something at the wife
(68.7%); slapping or hitting with fist(66.8%), hitting or beating with stick/ iron bar(62.7%); and
kicking or hitting with leg(60.1%). Age difference between husband wife; women’s financial
problem; and husband alcohol use had a positive association with intimate partner physical
violence against women. To minimize the problem it was recommended to create awareness on
the relation of partners by varies stack holders; prevention of the occurrences of IPPV at national
and local level; and conducting research on IPPV were recommended.
