Abstract:
The study was, planned to identify determinants of Soil and Water Conservation Practice in
Wolaita Zone Damote Gale Wereda. The responses of the respondents would be the main
technical function for this research means that the responses of the persons have been the real
path to reach on the solutions based on analysis. The researcher used causal research design.
Data was collected from primary and secondary data sources. It was collected from Damote
Gale Wereda households through self-designed structured questionnaires with 5-point Likert type scale. Data was analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. The expected
contribution of the study is to help the Soil-Water Conservation Practice of Damote Gale
Wereda households for adequate functioning of the Soil-Water Conservation programs and
performances. According to the study, factors that could affect the Soil-Water Conservation
programs and performances such as Social factors(X1), Biophysical factors (X2), Economic
factors (X3), Institutional factors (X4), Psychological factors (X5) and Population Pressure(X6)
were found to be the facilitating factors affecting Soil and Water Conservation programs and
performance. Based on this study, the required recommendations to solve Soil and Water
Conservation Practice problems in Wolaita Zone Damote Gale Wereda were forwarded. The
researcher recommended defined conservation support relationship, fair soil and water
conservation practices, participation in farm land management procedures developments and
equity in training and conservation rules awareness for soil and water using procedures,
adequate infrastructures, developing the awareness of society and reducing the risk of degrading
of land, adequate trained and experienced households, officials, efficient counseling programs
and introducing technology to identify exact source of Soil and Water Conservation problems to
the general public are basic options to handle problems in Soil and Water Conservation
practices.
